The Vatican Gardens are located in the south-western part of the Vatican City, covering an area of 57 acres. It’s filled with an array of beautiful and unique plants from around the world, including cypress trees, olive trees, laurel trees and more. The gardens also house some of the most famous sculptures in the world, including the famous “Pieta” statue by Michelangelo, as well as other works of art by some of the world’s greatest sculptors.

Vatican Gardens tickets, Pricing & Opening Hours

Tickets for the guided tour of the Vatican Gardens can be purchased online or at the Vatican Ticket Office. The full price ticket costs around 32€, while reduced ticket is 24€. The Vatican Gardens are open from Monday to Saturday from 9am until 6pm.

Vatican Gardens History

The Vatican Gardens have a rich history that spans more than seven centuries. They were originally commissioned by Pope Sixtus IV as a way to provide recreation for the papal court. Over the centuries, the gardens were expanded and redesigned by subsequent popes, including Pope Leo X, Pope Paul V, and Pope Pius XI.

The Vatican Gardens are home to some of the world’s most famous sculptures, including the iconic Pieta by Michelangelo and the Winged Lion of St. Mark by Gian Lorenzo Bernini.
